AP Sonnets

A big ball is thrown up into the air It has initial speed and rotation Reaching a peak and reflecting a glare, Down it falls due to gravitation The hefty man below, he tries to flee, As he takes his first steps he finds it hard, Friction inhibits his movement of knees, I hope the guy is wearing a mouth guard. Now this here ball is coming down quite fast, The man has tripped laying lame on the ground, The ball and his face hit with a blast, Noise of impact is a horrible sound. The man is now in a far better place, Floating with angels in heavenly grace. |
Oh woe! Alas, my dying light bulb bright! The mean capacitor will sap your shine! Though with the battery you'd last the night With the capacitor you'll fade by nine. Oh woe! Too late, you glitter and you die! The mean capacitor has had its fill! And as I whimper and say goodbye Why Mr. G., he wants to show his skill. Oh woe, the battery is set aside. The mean capacitor is now alone. The current's path, a wire does provide. For his cruel acts the 'pacitor atones. Again you shine, my dying light bulb bright. We'll shine again if only for tonight. |
A man was trying to set
a record. He wanted to withstand a real big shock. "I'll show all of those at the mental ward. The dangers of voltage is just all talk." He started to make an experiment. "I can stand at least fifty thousand volts." The dangers he did not know the extent. "I am to receive but a little jolt. The electrician gave him all the wires. " Are you sure this is what you want to do?" "Look at my arm, does it seem to transpire?" The resistance is low, I beseech you." When the body was found, it received stares, He did not know what kills you is amperes. |
| I faced a problem when
my lights went out, And they went on a dark and moonless night, I stubbed my toe and I let out a shout, I could not get along without my sight. My situation looked so grim, But I had a little trick up my sleeve: A coil of wire and a magnet; All of the materials that I need. Inductance my friend; a means to an end. I wrapped the coil around the magnet, And through the coil my magnet ascends. Electricity my magnet did net. My lights went on with a flicker and flash A night without power, I need more cash. |
I went to the pump to
fill up my car, But my wallet was not very full, And when I left I did not get very far, I had no choice but to get out and pull Unfortunately, my car did not budge, So I decided to check out the scene, It was my brakes and the friction they caused, My e-brake is just part of the routine. To loosen the wheels I let off my brake, Then put it in neutral and pulled real hard, As the rope tightened it started to quake, And suddenly I was pulling my car. Friction was beaten; a matter of force. I never knew I was strong as a horse. |
The E & M part is
ridiculous. I can't picture problems in my head. All the problems are inconspicuous. On E & M I wish I were dead. Everything we learn is so obscure. There are so many things to memorize. I could definitely use some closure. Oh physics, it is you I despise. Good news is that I have the right hand rule. Using calculators helps out a lot. The formula sheet is helpful. Those things should make life good, but it is not. I feel better, at least a little bit. School's almost over, I'll be done with this spit. |
| A ball hit into the air
always falls. It starts with an initial speed upward, Until all of the vertical speed stalls, And then ends with a speed that is downward. The horizontal speed will never stop While the ball is in the air, But it will come to a stop when it goes plop On the real soft ground when it arrives there. The distance traveled upward can be found With the known angle and the hitting speed. Distance can be measured over the ground And time can be useful to do this deed. Gravity can be thanked for all of that. You know where be when it leaves the bat. |
Joe has no speedometer
in his car. He wonders about his velocity. He knows the distance he has traveled thus far. Getting pulled over would be a pity. He continues his journey anyway. He travels along not knowing his rate. A citation he does not want to pay. He hopes that a cop won't seal his fate. To find velocity is what he needs. He has a stopwatch and a measured mile. The derivative of distance is speed. He can find his velocity with style. Finding velocity puts him at ease. Do not give me an F, Mr. G., please. |
Mechanics is the section
I know best However, I don't like being graded. I prefer the labs. I dislike the tests. I do poorly on tests, I feel jaded. At first everything seems to be quite swell, But after a week I get my grade back. It makes me feel like I fell down a well. I wish Mr. G. would cut me some slack. My parents want me to get a good grade, So I do well on my labs and study hard. With more effort I thought I had it made, Unfortunately I let down my guard. However my increased optimism, Stopped when we got to magnetism. |
| A rocket shot into the
sky must fall, As sure as the sun does shine upon the land. Thus does a man who throws up high a ball Discover that it comes back to his hand. Sir Isaac Newton found the cause of that Phenomenon of physics and of flight, The force that makes an uncooked egg go "Splat" Upon the ground is gravity alright. Sir Newton claimed the force was every place The universe had to offer: between Every pair of objects − in all of space. Although often times the force is unseen. All over the earth does gravity apply. It keeps us grounded − to dream of the sky. |
Once Newton sat below an
apple tree. An apple fell and Newton said, "Oh my! The cause of that must have been gravity! Experiments I know I must try!" No gravity, and apples would not fall, An object stays unless it wants to go. It must apply a force be big or small, Because law one of Newton tells us so. The force that hit old Isaac's head is thus: Acceleration, that's nine point eight one Times mass, the one old delicious, Russe, Without law two of Newton we're undone. Law three, there's an equal and opposite Reaction for each action that is hit. |
The AP test on E was
very hard, I had no idea how to find the flux, I wish I was playing in my own yard, Instead I made myself pay the big bucks. Apparently it is really easy. It's just magnetic field times area, I wish in class I was not so lazy, So that I could understand flux, kinda. Electric field, just change in potential, With respect to time, I wish I knew that. At least I understand differential, They are easy as making a new mat. Physics is a very hard subject to learn, For this knowledge, I greatly do yearn. |
| A man wants to go up in
the sky, But he can't because of gravity. So he tries to make some wings to fly, Now he must find the right velocity. He knows gravity is 9.81, He gets enough force to get in the air. Now that he is soaring and having fun, Oh no one wing has an enormous tear. He starts to free fall faster and faster, There is no control in his huge free fall. He goes through a big new wall of plaster, The owner was told 911 to call. All of the flying man's bones were broken, His casts are a memorial token. |
Lightning never strikes
twice in the same place. Tell Roy that, seven times he has been struck. The rule does not apply in his case. Mr. Sullivan does not have any luck. The voltage of lightning is very high. At the top of the mountain he did sit Talking about lightning he cannot lie About his hat which has burn holes in it. Even though it may sound a little strange, He liked his job working at the summit. Technology brought about needed change. His famous job he would have to quit. Computers replaced his dangerous job, No longer would his wife be forced to sob. |
Bumps in the road are
certainly a pain The car would lose control at high speed The car will flip and roll out of the lane This will cause you to fall behind the lead. A good solution to this big nuisance Is to fit the car with springs at each wheel And this will cost you only a few cents But this might not stop a banana peel. One way to cut down on the vibrations Is to use stiff springs that barely move down. A variety of combinations Of high spring constants with very small crowns. It ranges from floating to rattling Springs change your comfort in driving. |
| When I went out this
morning, quite a shock I found. As I walked across the vast field, With kite held higher than the highest flock Of birds a-winging, the skies were unsealed. Down came the thick wet pouring rain, upon The trees and the ground it mercilessly fell. And to my tense wire I did hold on, For stormy winds were gusting well. One moment later a blinding flash came Out of the dark. I jumped. Without warning A stinging pain shook deeply my full frame. I regretted my ill-fated morning. My electrical find was quite fright'ning, For I, first-hand, experienced lightning. |
A charge is given to a
new wire. There is a change in this charge over time. A change that will make the charge much higher By increasing it, the current will climb. If the total resistance stays the same The voltage will also begin to rise And the new charge should take all of the blame If you are told different, they are lies. If it is the resistance that changed Then the voltage will not vary at all Unless the wire is rearranged, Then the voltage change will be very small. Increasing charge will change things a lot Including making the wire quite hot. |
The magnet of my heart
is very strong I can produce a current in your soul. Tell me if the electricity is wrong And I will show a magnetic pole. But you give me electrifying fear That powers light bulbs with a million watts. All I need is one less ampere The caterpillar is dead, so now he rots. But that is not important to this poem Though magnets and electricity are The compass magnet guides me to my home Your magnet power pulls me from afar. I can't wait until our electrons meet And combine to be stable and complete. |
