School Choice is a state program which allows Massachusetts school districts to enroll students from other Massachusetts towns. This is an optional program as not all towns participate.

The Mansfield School Committee determines, on an annual basis, openings for the upcoming school year. This determination is made by May 1st after the Superintendent of Schools reviews current and projected enrollment figures and class sizes, then presents a recommendation to the School Committee.

If the School Committee votes to enroll School Choice students for the following year, a notification is placed on our website with a deadline date for applying. If the number of applicants exceed the number of available openings, a lottery will be held to fill the spots. 

For the 2026-2027 school year, we have the following seats available for incoming students living in Massachusetts and entering the grades below in September 2026:

Grade 6 (5 seats)

Grade 9 (10 seats)

Grade 10 (10 seats)

4/1/26 School Choice Application is available online.

5/1/26 Applications must be submitted by noon in order to be considered into the lottery.

5/1-5/8/26 A lottery held by grade (if needed). Families will receive email regarding the results of lottery. If selected for registration via lottery, next steps will be provided including an access code to begin registration.

6/1/26 All Registration paperwork due to Mansfield Public Schools.  Final approval into the program is contingent upon receipt and review of all required documents, including the incoming school confirming grade placement*.

*In June, your registration documentation will be reviewed and you will receive an email from Central office regarding your completion of the paperwork process. Your student’s final admission into the program will be determined once the school has reviewed school records and confirmed grade placement. You will receive a confirmation email from the student’s incoming school with final admission approval and a course selection timeline.

Parents are required to provide transportation. 

Bus transportation is not an option for School Choice students.
