TEACHER
RETIREMENT FUNDING
It is mandatory
that all teachers contribute to the Massachusetts
Teacher Retirement System. All
teachers beginning on or after July 1, 2001, are
mandated to contribute 11% of their
total yearly earnings to Teacher Retirement. Prior
to July 1, 2001, the per cent of contribution
varies depending upon the year in which the
teacher began contributing to the Teacher
Retirement System.
Towns make no
matching contributions to the Teacher Retirement
System. The Teacher
Retirement System invests these monies over time,
thus funding the program in its entirety |

Booster
Club fundraiser
Mark
your calendar for Friday, May 9, 2008 for
Mansfield High School Booster's Club annual Comedy
Night to be held at the Elks Club located on Main
Street, Mansfield.
The
evening is undergoing some changes to add variety to
an already successful event. Steve Kardolfer, a
magician, is a sleight-of-hand expert, who has
performed extensively around the U.S. for close to
twenty years. One of the founding producers of
Boston's longest running magic show, "The Mystery
Lounge". Steve will be performing as well as Mike
McDonald, a comedian, who says, "People ask me,
Mike, as a comedian, what exactly is it that you do?
And I tell them, Well, Basically I’ve taken 6th
grade lunchroom technique and turned it into a
career." Plan for a great night of laughs.
Doors
open at 7:30 with the entertainment beginning at 8:30.
Refreshments, cash bar, and sports raffle are all part
of the plan. The event is $35.00 per person with a

A
Message from Mansfield’s Board of Health Nurse:
Did
you know that Lyme Disease is fairly common, not just
on Cape Cod and the Islands, but right in our own back
yard? Once the weather warms above 40 degrees, it is
important for everyone who spends any time outdoors to
do a "head to toe tick check" every day.
Parents, check small children, the family pet, and
yourselves. Older children can check themselves. Be
sure to check all folds and creases, and the entire
scalp.
If
ticks are found, remove them with tweezers. Grasp the
tick as closely to the skin as possible with the tip
of the tweezers, and pull gently and firmly straight
up. Once the tick is removed, wash the skin with soap
and water. Dispose of the tick in a sealed zip bag or
container. Mark the date of the bite on the calendar.
If
any signs of illness or rashes occur within 6 weeks of
the bite, such as "Summer Flu" symptoms
(fever, headache, stiff neck, sore and aching muscles
and joints, fatigue, swollen glands), seek medical
attention and inform your medical provider of the date
you removed the tick.
For
more information, visit the MDPH Tickborne Disease
Website at www.mass.gov/dph/cdc/epii/lyme/lymehp.htm.

Celebrate
Diversity
Under the direction of Eleanor Vaughn, advisor, and Jack O'Neill, videographer and editor, the children from the "Celebrate Diversity" group created a television show for the Mansfield Cable Access station. It was broadcast during the summer and check, it may still showing. The students read biographies, novels and poetry books about their culture and created book reviews to share with the community. As part of their review, some students wrote poems of their own, some sang, some danced and one student even played an original piano selection to demonstrate that he shared a love of composing with Duke Ellington. All of these students were in either Grade 3, 4 or 5 from the Jordan Jackson School. The cast for this production included: Dené Barros, Victor Borborema, Clifford Emmanuel, Shadia Fernandes, Herman Kinds, Chelyse Prevost, Tiffany Redden, Aloysus Rudd, Armani Smalls, and Brianna Young. |
